ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 2

“The colors live a remarkable life of their own after they have been applied to the canvas” – Edvard Munch.

When I read this quote, it spoke to me. Color plays a vital role in my design. So when deciding on a color for my One Room Challenge studio/office transformation, I gave it a lot of thought.

When you think of a studio, you may think of a room with white walls that resemble a clean, crisp blank canvas, sitting patiently upon an easel, ready for the artist to apply carefully mixed colors to bring it to life. Or perhaps you may envision a dark, moody room with walls in a mid-value gray or in a dull green that moves the artists to draw upon deep emotions that they release with each stroke of their paintbrush. Whichever came to mind, a feeling likely came along with it. That is why I truly believe that color can affect mood.

In planning my room for the One Room Challenge, I thought about how I wanted my space to function and how I wanted it to inspire me. I know that I draw inspiration by surrounding myself with things that I love; this includes colors, patterns, and textures. So that is what you will see in my finished studio/office at the reveal of my space for the One Room Challenge. I chose a color for the walls, which I will reveal later, which may not be the norm for a studio. Because I am an artist, and this is my space to express myself, I also chose patterns and textiles that are true to my style.

If you have a space in your home that you would like to transform, I encourage you to give thought to both the desired function and the mood you would like for the space to evoke. It is your canvas, and you are the artist. Make it inspiring!
