ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 3

Have you ever heard of the concept, shop your closet? I have implemented this philosophy into my life. When looking to purchase new clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc., I shop my closet first. I often find that I already own that one item (or something similar) that I was looking to purchase. I also apply this in my home decorating.

When planning a room transformation, it is always fun and often necessary to shop for new furniture and accessories. However, don’t forget to shop your home for existing pieces. You may be surprised at the treasures you will find. Think about the furniture or decor piece that you may have owned for many years and how you could repurpose it. Or perhaps let it live in a new space. You can restore the glory to that piece that may seem to have lost its luster. Mixing the old with the new creates character, this part of my design philosophy.

It is week three of the One Room Challenge. I’m gathering the furnishings and accessories for my studio/office. Although I will be using many existing pieces, I did pick up some new items. Pictured above are a few of the things I plan to include in my studio/office transformation for the One Room Challenge.

When decorating your home, remember that it’s your personal space, and it should tell your story. Mix the old and the new. Create a curated space filled with things that you love.

  1. I love Lacy Ford Design, and the Blog posts are so thorough and helpful. Designing rooms can be challenging, but LFD makes it seem very doable. Maria Ford truly takes the fear out of design.
